    FULL STORY

Hear that? It's the sounds of The Mummy 's fanbase celebrating the news that the horror franchise's next entry will reunite us with its fan-favorite
    stars.

Per reports from Deadline, Variety , and The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Universal is resurrecting the movie series once again. Even better, the entertainment behemoth has reportedly held talks with the series' iconic
leads Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz over starring in it.

If the pair sign on, it'll reunite them more than 25 years after their last on-screen partnership. Frasier and Weisz starred as Rick O'Connell and Evelyn Carnahan in 1999 classic The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns . However, while Frasier returned for 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor , Weisz wasn't part of its cast.

Predictably, there's very little information on the forthcoming film's plot. Sources apparently told THR that it will be a sequel to the Frasier and Weisz-led films rather than a reboot of said movie series, though.

Given Weisz's involvement, it'll also disregard events depicted in Tomb of
the Dragon Emperor . So, while the movie is currently being referred to as
The Mummy 4 , it'll technically be the third installment of the O'Connell-Carnahan story.

As for who else is reportedly involved in its production, Matt
Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka the horror aficionados known as Radio Silence who helmed the fifth and sixth Scream movies, are in line to direct from a script penned by The Family Plan film series' scribe David Coggeshall.

Despite releasing to mixed-to-poor reviews in the last 1990s and early 2000s, the Stephen Sommers-directed The Mummy films were not only smash hits at the box office collectively, they grossed over $1.4 billion but they continue
to hold a place in many people's hearts.

The first two movies in particular are adored by film buffs, not least
because of Frasier and Weisz's absorbing on-screen rapport. Coupled with the unmistakable sexual chemistry between their characters, The Mummy has been labeled as as the movie that led to many millennials' bisexual awakening.

But I digress. Considering the high esteem these movies are held in, it's unsurprising that fans of a certain age myself included have reacted with surprise and delight over the prospect of another The Mummy film starring Frasier and Weisz.

Reddit pages including r/entertainment and r/movies , as well as other forms
of social media, are awash with comments from ecstatic users. In fact, the nostalgia factor is so high that some have even called on Universal to
replace Radio Silence with Sommers, too.
