FULL STORY
Netflix might be working on adapting the hit video game series Crash
Bandicoot into an animated TV show, if this report from What's On Netflix is true.
While the publication said in an earlier version of the article that
WildBrain was supposedly producing the show, a spokesperson from the studio
has since confirmed that it is not involved.
Even still, I'd expect any adaptation of the game to be more family-friendly, like WildBrain's previous Netflix series Sonic Prime , than an adult-oriented game adaptation like League of Legends' Arcane or Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
A cartoon-type animation would be more in line with what was previously in
the works, too, if we're going to believe past Reddit rumors. According to a post that's now been deleted, Amazon and Activision reportedly axed a
previous adaptation of the game. However, you can still see supposed test footage from the project, thanks to Nintendo Life .
I wouldn't be surprised, however, if the animation style is more like
Netflix's Skylanders Academy animated series, which features a 3D Crash Bandicoot in a guest appearance with an Aussie accent (Crash is a mutated bandicoot, after all), courtesy of Eric Rogers.
No further details about the potential Netflix series have been revealed or confirmed by the studio, but perhaps if we shout loud enough, then maybe we, the fans, can force the streaming service s' hand.
What happened to the last Naughty Dog video game adaptation?
Naughty Dog's IP has proven to be a treasure trove for studios looking to
adapt hit video game franchises. From HBO Max's The Last of Us TV show to
Ruben Fleischer's Uncharted movie, the game developer is behind some of the best games ever made.
So, it's probably not too surprising to hear that Naughty Dog's Jak and
Daxter franchise was also reportedly set to be adapted into a movie with Fleischer at the helm. The director had even gone as far as to tell
GamesRadar+ that he'd spoken to Tom Holland, who stars as Nathan Drake in Uncharted, about being involved.
That was back in 2022, though. Since then, there have been no further announcements about the project, which is a shame for fans of the video game series that wanted to see a Jak and Daxter film.
Could Crash Bandicoot suffer a similar fate? Hopefully not, but I think it's worth considering that only Naughty Dog games made by the original
co-founders, Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin, have successfully made it onto the silver screen.
After all, Sony, which bought the developer in the early 2000s, is no
stranger to adapting games into movies and TV shows, with Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, and Until Dawn being just a small flavor of what's been produced so far .
Let's just hope there are no blockers that could scupper a potential Sony and Netflix Crash Bandicoot series.
