Hi all. I've just joined MusicalNet (and DeveloperNet), though I'm not bringing many users with me, unfortunately.

I'm in the process of trying to re-learn how to play guitar. I played many years ago, but got away from it when I started getting more heavily into computers.
I'm trying to learn keyboard/synth as well. I'm working on a music project that needs all the traditional "rock" instruments, as well as some electronic stuff.

    Welcome!

I'm in the process of trying to re-learn how to play guitar. I played many years ago, but got away from it when I started getting more heavily into computers.

It's always good to keep it up if you're still interested in it. I've been playing guitar as a hobby for a long time but haven't been playing as much recently. I've also always been heavily into computers, which takes up some time as a hobby too. There are things I'd like to get better at with guitar though.

I'm trying to learn keyboard/synth as well. I'm working on a music project that needs all the traditional "rock" instruments, as well as some electronic stuff.

That's cool. I enjoy playing synth/keyboard as well. A while ago I found out about Mixcraft, which is a fairly nice multi-track music recording software for Windows (it initially reminded me of Garage Band for the Mac). I bought a copy but still haven't used it a whole lot. It works with MIDI keyboards (including ones you can plug into your PC via USB) and can record plain audio as well, so you could have a mix of synth & guitar tracks and singing with it.

I'm actually using Reaper as my DAW currently. I like it so much that I've even paid for a copy, even though it's possible to run it forever without paying. The license of course says you have 60 days to evaluate it before you're supposed to pay for it.
It sounds like it has support for all the same stuff as Mixcraft, though it doesn't come with very advanced "plug-ins". I'm badly in need of a proper audio interface. At the moment I'm using a Rocksmith cable to connect my guitar to my computer. I currently just use a USB microphone, though it's pretty decent, it's a Blue.

Oh & my current "synth" (it's actually a MIDI controller) connects to my PC with USB.

Those cables seem to work decent enough. I also have Rocksmith, though I haven't used it much. Even before I got Rocksmith, I think I already had one of those USB guitar cables.

Yep, I have a synth that connects to my PC via USB. MIDI controllers are fairly useful if you do music recording on a PC.
