That is another show I watched. Yes. Her passing was recent, 3 October. She played Hyacinth Bucket. "The 'Bouquet' residence. The lady of the house speaking." And poor Richard! Believe it or not, my dad indroduced
me to these shows a few decades ago. He still quotes them.

My mom and dad both watched Are You Being Served. They enjoyed it together. After my dad passed, my mom found Keeping UP and quotes it a lot too. :-)

If you pay attention there are an amazing number of shows on these
    >> days that are english versions of shows from other countries.

Some of the older ones are Three's Company, The Good Doctor,
    >> The Office, All in the Family.. This past year I noticed DOC
    >> was based an an Italian Show.

AFAIK The Office and All in the Family were American English versions of
    >originally British English shows.

Yes, I hesitated when I said English versions since a lot of them
    were in British English originally.

Sanford and Son was based on a British show, Steptoe and Son. I need to
    >see the original sometime.

That's one I hadn't heard about originally being British.

There was a show in one of the Scandanavian countries... I think it was
    >named after the link between them and mainland Europe... that was later
    >remade into a British/French show called, IIRC, The Tunnel, which links the
    >UK and France. It made me curious about the original.

Yes, that one is listed in most lists of popular shows remade in
American English versions and relocated into usually the USA..

I was trying to think of another show I got through BBS the other day.
It takes place in Glasgow, a Marine Homicide show called Annika after
the main character.. It's usually pretty good, although a little funny
in places like she will suddenly stop and look into the Camera and
talk to the watching audience outside of the show, explaining or
commenting on something. That show is a copy of one from Norway.

We occasionally get a free trial of channels that cost extra to
get on my package and I was happy to see I got one of the BBC
channels, but a look the other day didn't show any programs that
    I was hoping to find..

I have seen that one on PBS here. Probably about time for a new season of

Anyway - I was telling my son about it today and there's a supplement

Sorry, my comment was confusing. I didn't mean there was a US version
of The Tunnel, just that most shows that remake themselves for the
North American market tend to set themselves somewhere in the USA.

I noticed last night that that BBC trial channel had Father Brown and

Sister Boniface was only made for 4 seasons but Father Brown is
into season 13 for 2026 so it is still going..

True! The one thing that makes it different, I guess, is that it is a tropical
vacation destination so at least there are many "non-residents" in and out vs. the other shows.

IIRC, it was a French-British colab. I preferred the original "inspector," played by the same actor who now plays British Professor T. The PBS network here only showed the seasons up to the first one with his character replaced, so we've not see the other variants.

Yes, which makes sense since a lot of those places are British/French.
I think they speak a bit of French in that show now and then.
I get to see how much of my highschool French I still remember.

Actually what's more fun is when you translate the French and

If memory serves, the next assistant was in uniform for the first

BTW, the reason the original inspector left was that the series became

    >so they killed his character off.

Killed on the series or he just moved back on the show too?
    I don't recall a death on there..

Coincidentally it was on tonight here so I watched a fairly recent
version of Death in Paradise, although the sergeant assisting him
these days isn't quite as pretty as the original 2.. B(

The newest Inspector the last few years is played by Ralf Little.
He wasn't my favourite of the bunch really, although the BBC has
an article saying that after 4 years, 36 shows, he is quitting.
He had the part the longest of them all.

I wonder if they will kill him off... B)

Apparently Don Gilet (East Enders and Shetland) is replacing him.

They killed his character on the series. It has been so long since it aired here that I don't remember the specifics, but his characters was murdered on the show.

Looked that up.. apparently he was stabbed with an ice pick at a
school reunion.. I guess they wanted to make sure if he was leaving,
    he would stay gone..

I don't recall seeing that episode so it must be one I missed.

I was watching some of the newest episodes of that this week,
although I think I liked the older seasons characters better..

Yeah, that sounds familiar. When I saw it, I didn't know he was leaving the show so it was a shock. After he left, our local PBS network showed the rest of that season and then didn't show any more. I didn't realize it had continued on until much more recently.
