If you also watched "Keeping Up Appearances," FYI Dame Patricia
Routledge passed away earlier this month. She was 96, I think.

That is another show I watched. Yes. Her passing was recent, 3 October. She played Hyacinth Bucket. "The 'Bouquet' residence. The lady of the house speaking." And poor Richard! Believe it or not, my dad indroduced
me to these shows a few decades ago. He still quotes them.

Yes, I watched a lot of British shows over the years. As Time Goes By
as well as The Good Neighbours (The Good Life), Doc Martin, All
Creatures Great and Small, Heartbeat and Father Brown..

Saw a 'cartoon' online right after - St. Peter said "welcome miss

Yes, that one is listed in most lists of popular shows remade in
American English versions and relocated into usually the USA..
I was trying to think of another show I got through BBS the other day.
It takes place in Glasgow, a Marine Homicide show called Annika after
the main character.. It's usually pretty good, although a little funny
in places like she will suddenly stop and look into the Camera and
talk to the watching audience outside of the show, explaining or
commenting on something. That show is a copy of one from Norway.
We occasionally get a free trial of channels that cost extra to
get on my package and I was happy to see I got one of the BBC
channels, but a look the other day didn't show any programs that
I was hoping to find..

Lady at church said I need to subscribe to some of the British

a chance to figure it out... :-)

One funny thing about Father Brown is that he lives in what appears to
be a fairly small village which, per capita, must have a horrible
murder rate! I half-suspect that the series finale might reveal that he was behind most of the mayhem all along. :D

I heard about an RPG called Urban Knights - and then bought it on DriveThruRPG. It is about television police shows from the 70's.
Anyway, sounded like "In the Heat of the Night" to me, whcih made
me think sometime similar. A murder happens every week. :-)

I didn't realize there was an American version of that one. I guess it was>centered around one of the tunnels that links Canada with Detroit? :D

Ha.. I always thought the same thing about Death in Paradise.
Not quite a British show but it's usually not bad, although they
seem to go through a lot of main characters.

I suppose they are usually a more pure form of mystery. I actually
am not likely to try to figure out 'who done it' when watching a
TV show than I am when reading a book. I think I'm concentrating
more when reading than when watching TV, where I more just let
the story carry on..
I grew up reading Encyclopedia Brown as a kid...

True! The one thing that makes it different, I guess, is that it is a>tropical vacation destination so at least there are many "non-residents"
IIRC, it was a French-British colab.
I preferred the original "inspector," played by the same actor who>now plays British Professor T.
The PBS network here only showed the seasons up to the first one>with his character replaced, so we've not see the other variants.

I've seen pretty much all of them now, through 3 or 4 'inspectors'
and watching the pretty 'dark' assistant girls come and go.. B)
Ha.. That's probably not a totally P.C. way to refer to that
but it reminded me of something that happened to me today.
I was in a pharmacy I don't often use and I commented to the
pharmacist there, who was probably from India or close by, what
pharmacy I usually go to, and he informed me that it had changed
hands and it was now run by <<shudder>> Egyptians!, like that
was a serious warning.. Apparently you don't have to be white
to be prejudiced..
Mike Powell wrote to ROB MCCART <=-
No, you do not! I wonder how he would have reacted if that pharmacy,

I later thought I should have added something to my comment on not
trying to solve the mystery on TV shows. Often it just comes to me
and I'm waiting for the people on the show to realize it.. B)
But the other thing I do, not really intentionally, is I notice
when they do things that are pretty much impossible and do or
say things that are just plain wrong. I have to keep my mouth
shut when watching a show with others so that I don't mess it
up for them.. B)

If memory serves, the next assistant was in uniform for the first
season and was promoted when the first one went to work in another
country. They were both pretty ladies but the second sergeant was
a bit 'softer' looking, not quite as thin and sharp featured as
the original one (Sara Martins - Portugese but grew up in France).

Looked that up.. apparently he was stabbed with an ice pick at a

he would stay gone..
