    Ten definitions of H.A.M.:

    1) Have Another Meal, or Have A Muffin -- two things hams love to do
are talk and eat...and if you eat ham, you're cannibalistic.

    2) Haven't Any Money (if you're poor), or Have Abundant Money (if you're
    rich).

    3) Haven't Any Memory -- What net am I supposed to run today??

    4) Have A Mess -- A cluttered shack is a sign of genius. <G>

    5) Have A Mattress -- Eat, Sleep, Ham, Repeat.

    6) Have A Marriage -- When ham takes radio to be his lawfully wedded
    spouse.

    7) Have A Meeting -- When you meet a fellow ham radio operator at a
local restaurant, club meeting, hamfest, etc.

    8) Have A Minute -- a very rare occurence, as life has you so busy!!

    9) Have A Malfunction -- when things quit working the way they should.

    10) Have A Motormouth -- for the individual who won't quit talking.

I was thinking it was the Grinch swapping a few of your key

    Brian,

And...(while I'm om my fast food rant soapbox...) The audacity
to charge $15 bucks for a meal is beyond me...

I remember when I worked for 2 local Burger King franchises from
1978 to 1984, that the price of a Whopper was $1.19 -- and sales
tax was 7 cents on the dollar. Now, the price can be well over $6,
and sales tax is 15 cents on the dollar.

Growing up in Hialeah, Florida (a satellite community just northwest
of Miami), there was a burger restaurant called "Burger Boy" about 1/2
mile from my house. They had hamburgers for 19 cents...but this was at
    nearly 60 years ago.

Since I can no longer drive or have a car, due to vision issues,
if I want something from a restaurant, I'll order it via DoorDash.
However, I can't afford to that very often.

You have the "hamburger tax" (which goes toward the Convention And
Visitors Bureau), then the city, county, and state sales tax.

Years ago, you could eat for under $5. Now, you're lucky for 2 people
    eating for under $30.

Many folks try to defraud the state with the sales tax on new or
used automobiles. They say their primary residence is in Oregon, or
some other state, where there is no tax on the vehicles.

But, if it's determined that you lied about that, they hit you with
extra penalties, and maybe even arrest warrants.

In short, they'll get their money, one way or another.

Are you saying a website would act as a HF XCVR for you?

Or does the website use separate TX and RX?

At least whatever HF freq it uses You are licensed to operate on that freq.

I would suppose that website is using Packet , ASCII or RTTY.
Might be on some newer Mode that I never used such as the FT# Mode I see written about in BBS posts
I am guessing that FT# is a digital Mode.
Stopped getting Radio or Electronic magazines in the mailbox long ago.

Maybe after I post this msg I could look at Wikipedia to learn what FT8 orwhatever is about .

    I looked at the website.
It looks like other hams allow their radios to be used by way of a internet connection for other hams.
SWL's can listen using that service too

Oh, I found my ROUNDTUIT to find out what FT8 is for.
To me it is a Packet/modified RRTY type system.

A long time ago I used Packet with Digicom, a C=64 and the 2 Meter rig I had back then.
The rig began to reset itself to 144.000 Mc/s often so I sent it to a shop in another state.
It was unrepairable so I told the Repairman to keep it, he said it would go into his Junque pile.

The login requires a callsign, so if your not a ham, you can't get in. Even if you could, a better option for SWL is using the KiwiSDR and WebSDR websites which don't require a seperate app.

    Thank You
I had looked at the page several days before I wrote what I thought I remembered reading.
Da OM messed up writing about SWL's use on that site.
And I really really want to become a Mister Know It All but I messed up .
Hope I don't keep on keeping on.
Happy New Year to You and Other readers here.

    Ed,

    I looked at the website.
It looks like other hams allow their radios to be used by way
of a internet connection for other hams.
SWL's can listen using that service too

I think that unless you've been approved by the station owner,
    you can only listen.

Oh, I found my ROUNDTUIT to find out what FT8 is for.
To me it is a Packet/modified RRTY type system.

A lot of hams are using that mode now...and there are 2 big RTTY
    contests each year.

A long time ago I used Packet with Digicom, a C=64 and the 2
Meter rig I had back then.

I still have an MFJ 1270C TNC with a power supply, and cable
from the rig to the computer. However, I have no rig or cable
to it. MFJ went out of business last year, and I doubt you can
    get any special cables anymore.

    Daryl,
I have bought various kinds of connectors and wires at Electronic Parts Stores and Radio Shack and made cables I wanted hare.

Once I made a long (6') extension cable for the C=64 system with M and F DIM-8 connectors.
I think DIM-8 is correct, could be DIM-6 been a long time I did that job.

Does the MFJ cable use standard connectors where You could build one if it needed to be replaced? (That is when you have gear to use it with).

I'm not sure. Since Martin F Jue retired, I thought the whole place
had shut down, but one ham said you could still get cables, etc.,
    while they were still available.
