what is your ip? It might fall into one of my block lists. I have a program that auto adds certain ips to a block list upon any kind of error or failure. I can remove your ip from that list if it accidentally fell into that list. Certain countries are automatically blocked by entire ranges. What country are you in? I hope you have a great day and hope to see you online soon. Have you ever connected to my BBS before?

i think first login atempt failed cause i had username and password set in syncterm already and it tried to auto-login with those data.
I am from Germany (Deutsche Telekom IP ranges) yesterday it was 93.something and today i am on 80.144.2.x
it is a dynamic IP, it gets changed every 24h

Thats a block of 16.777.214 IPs that you have blocked. That's something!
until now i rely on synchronets own security features + fail2ban only.

Sadly, i am still blocked. Deutsche Telekom has some different ranges for their domestic customers on dynamic IPs. Today i am in the 79.202.51.* range.
Do you have alot of ddos attacks etc and many large IP ranges blocked?

It is better to use something like fail2ban i guess. Blocking huge IP ranges is problematic always. You will get alot of legitimate users blocked that way.
Also big chunks of the internet runs on dynamic IPs. So the bot you block one day, can be a decent user the next day (bots can run on infected normal user Computers). Blocking should be temporary also, unless you are 100% sure it is a datacenter behind the IP (forever) and not a domestic IP range/ user.

Do we have windows Sysops here with recommendations how to handle bots with extra tools for Synchronet on windows?

Gemini AI recommended: CrowdSec, IPBan, EvlWatcher, Win2Ban (for Windows in general, not specifically for Synchronet)

But i think synchronet itself comes with some defence measures already. https://wiki.synchro.net/howto:block-hackers?s[]=bots
