Any HAM radio operators on this net?

I wish! My dad was into HAM big time! I guess this is my version of HAM :) went to get his equipment after he passed many years ago and he had it all packed up in a shed. Everything was rusted and destroyed :(

That is something I always wanted to pick up. It seems so interesting. Is it hard to get into the HAM scene?

It really doesn't take a lot to get into it.
Getting your license you can do in a month or two for the general class.
What takes some time learning is how to choose what bands to use and how they relate to one another based on where you'd like to communicate.
It has been a fun time learning for me.

Well, "hard" is a relative term, but generally, I'd say no. To be a Ham (a.k.a., amateur radio operator), you need two things: A license and a radio. From there things diverge a bit. A lot will depend on what you want to do on the air, which will dictate what type of license and radio you need.

There are numberous sources of information, both online and off. Because this is such a rabbit hole, it'd be easier to answer specific questions. I don't want to innundate you (and others) with too much stuff.

73! (how Hams say, "later, dude!")
