  • Increase file Library Long Name in scfg

    I would like to be able to have more characters in scfg for the long name of a file library.

    When using Nightfox's DDFileAreaChooser, it's possible to have multiple levels with each separated by a | (by default). So I have "CDs|Shareware|whatever" this and "CDs|Shareware|whatever else". Now we're using .ini files, I don't see a need to restrict the size other than for display purposes only.

    There probably be be *a* length limit though. What length do you need?

    @nightfox my bad, I forgot I changed it.

    @rswindell 60 would be nice. 50 would be acceptable since I can squeeze in what I currently have. I can squeeze in 3 levels. 60 would make it easier. More the merrier, as they say.

    Traditionally File Libraries and Message Groups need *shorter* names than File directories and Sub-boards to look nice in all the Synchronet prompts, etc.

    Right now, both file lib and msg group long names are limited to 40 chars, but libs/group short names are limited to 15 chars while dir/sub short names are limited to 25 chars.

    Are you asking for file *library* long names to be increased, but not directory long names? I'd be inclined to increase either the long names for dirs/subs or *both* the libs/groups and the dirs/subs. But increasing the max length of the long name for the higher level (usually more general) container to a length longer than the maximum for the sub-categories doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

    SCFG->File Areas (similarly, SCFG->Message Areas) currently displays the entire lib/group long names, followed by the count of dirs or subs within. Extending the max length by more than 10 chars would mean we couldn't display the full long names in SCFG any more (unless maybe when running in wider than 80 col modes).

    Yes, the file library long name.

    I want my long name to be "CD Collections|Shareware to the Maxx!|Volume 1"

    Then using Nightfox's file area chooser, this will create 3 collapsed levels. "CD Collections" then "Shareware to the Maxx!" and then "Volume 1".

    So to me, the length doesn't really matter since my chooser and menus are custom. It seems the limit is just to protect the sysops from themselves on an unmodified Synchronet installation.

    I don't plan on having more than 3 levels, so 60 characters would be about perfect.
