Unfortunately, Altzheimer's runs in my family. My 93 yr old mother does not even know who I am anymore... this worries me for the future.

That's sad. :( Sorry to hear.

It seems "the internet" is upset with MS about their new
requirement to disallow windows 11 on entirely local machines
(ie. without accounts on live.com, full time internet access,

yet they are on the internet.

I dont see any issue with requiring a microsoft account.
Furthermore, i dont see a problem with a lot of things microsoft does now, like requiring updates. for many years people wouldn't update and they'd be a botnet or have other issues and just point the finger at MS.

I wonder how one upgrades to Win 11 for a machine that doesn't have full time internet access, since it requires it?

Meh, historically, people tends to stick with old Windows systems and only moves to the new one when they replace their hardware. I know many people here does not do that, but keep in mind the big mass of users are not powerusers.

If people refuses to move to the new Windows version, it is not going to be because the new Windows is crap. Microsoft putting out crap or displaying predatory strategies has never hindered them noticeably. People is dumb and will take whichever crap they are offered without questioning. The Internet can be as angry as it wants to be, because when people needs to replace their hardware, they will buy the new thing and stick with it. The only thing delaying this is people not replacing their hardware for a reason or another.

It depends on how that stuff is implemented. You would say a Nintendo Switch 2 requiring a Nintendo account is not a big deal, but the practical implication is if they ban you or cut you off the Ninteendo account for whichever reason, your device gets crippled. Some people would go as far as to say it is bricked.

It is the same with Android, really. There is no reason why having a Google account to use the store for downloading free programs should be required. Then again, as I said earlier, people is retarded and will take any crap they are fed without questioning.

Me too. I was talking to one of my dear friends this past weekend. I haven't talked to him in a year or so and I found out he is taking care of his mother and his mother's husband... and the husband's kids won't help at all, so my friend takes care of him. Both of them have Altzheimer's and the husband is worse off than his mother.

There's a special place in heaven for my friend... but I have always known that.

They were talking about removing it.

I think a number of Android devices won't let you start a session until you create a gmail accoung. I am tired of IT crap so I just shoved GrapheneOS into my smartphone. No need for google and if you ever install google stuff, you can place it within a controlled sandbox and turn it on only when needed.

i'm not sure i can put grapheneos on my motorola phone. it would probably be fucked up some how. looks like they support pixel phones.

Sadly, GrapheneOS is for Pixel equipment only.

Fortunately, there are other alternatives such as LienageOS out there. It is just I prefer GrapheneOS because they are more serious about removing spyware and bloat aggresively.
