• Network usage and keeping

From Nightfox@DIGDIST to All on Wed Sep 25 15:18:00 2024
Since this message network gets so little usage, I've contemplated the idea of taking it down and no longer hosting it. As some people have stated, there are a lot of dead (or near dead) networks, and I'm not sure if this message network has been very useful with such low activity. For sysops who carry this network, what would you think about this network going away?

Honestly, you'd think that programming would be a pretty good topic of conversation in BBS land but even the programming echoes on other, populous networks are dead.

The only programming discussions I see anymore are usually directly related
to Synchronet or some other still-active BBS projects. I guess people are finding their programming answers somewhere else.

I would leave it up to you but I wouldn't throw a hissy-fit if you decided
    to cease hosting it.

Yeah, I thought having a developer message network would attract more developers, but it seems that hasn't been the case. Other than BBS programming, I think developers are probably more likely to use other forums generally available on the internet, such as StackOverflow and the variuos other programming forums. I'm not sure if many developers would be drawn to such a forum as a BBS message network.

I would leave it up to you but I wouldn't throw a hissy-fit if you decided to cease hosting it.

I think I'll keep it going for now, as it's very little extra maintenance to keep it going.

I responded on MusicalNet. I've enjoyed both and hate the lack of traffic
on many of the echoes we have available to us on the BBSes.

I'll hang on as long as you do :-) You provide a lot to the BBS community from what I've seen with synchronet, and the your message echoes are a continuation of your will and goal to help others. Thanks!

    Works for me! ;)
