    Howdy!

The other day when I logged onto Digital Distortion, I noticed that you
have a matrtix/login menu that is quite different from the stock synchronet logon. How does one set that up? Are the menu choices static, or could
you set it up so that one could telgate to other BBSes that you host (if
you were to host more than one)?

Just curious. I have only seen that on a synchronet system a time or two before. Thought it was pretty neat!

depending on what the matrix login is written in, baja or JS, well or both, it should be pretty easy to add a telgate option to it, or anything really.

I did'nt think about that though, I don't know for sure if sbbs will allow externals to run without the user first being logged in. I've never tried it. but it should'nt take over a couple min to try, like if you download one of the default baja or js matrix and find the selection loop and throw a command in there that calls the internal code to that xtrn.

If you are using the default ones, or well I guess it does'nt matter, why not copy and paste the code to the matrix in here and someone can fix it up for you. I presume that is what this network is for :)

If I'm not mistaken, I do believe synchronet CAN run xtrns or at least you can execute an exec_bin ?telgate 888.999.999.99:23 or something around there fairly easy.

Back on my old BBS, before when I still had all my doors running on a windows machine (way too many to change over, and dosemu patch was buggy) I set my door server as a rlogin machine only and then right after login on the main bbs I had a little question pop up that would ask if users wanted to:

    (1) Go straight to Door Menu
    (2) Skip straight to Main Menu
    (3) continue with full login sequence.

    Pick your poisin:

    lol.

Are you asking me? Your message was addressed to "All" but your question is specific to my BBS, Digital Distortion.

Basically, the login matrix is launched from one of Synchronet's login scripts (either login.js or logon.js, I don't remember which right now off the top of my head). I created the login matrix used on my BBS, and you can download it from my BBS (it's in the BBS file area, Synchronet JavaScript mods sectoion.

The menu choices are static in the sense that there isn't a configuration file that configures them, but you could edit the JavaScript and add more menu options. If you were to add an option to telgate to another BBS you run, that would still tie up a node on your Synchronet BBS while the user is using that option. Not sure if that would matter much to you or not. If you wanted users to be able to use your other BBS, seems like you could just make the other BBS public and users could connect directly to it.

If I cannot find one that is already made that will work, I may just try
    that next. :)

What software were you running your BBS on back then?

Yes, sorry, I boo-booed when I entered the message.

Long story, but the other BBS is not telnetable on its own. I used to run
it under OS/2 using the VMODEM virtual modem software. However, the bots
kept overwhelming VMODEM, so I moved it to run under dosemu and have mystic
set up as a matrix-only front-end for both the old DOS board and this one.
If I could do the same with a synchronet logon menu, that'd help me not have
to maintain three BBS software packages when I am only really using two.

    Thought...

Why not change the telnet port on sbbs and in your matrix, telgate or rlogin into that port. Don't think it will pass user/pw info though...

    Just a thought..
