Hello everyone! :) I have been having trouble with slyedit crashing. I don't know if synchronet is to blame or slyedit...Not trying to point fingers, I just want to put this out there. Maybe it can be fixed or others are having the same issue.
It doesn't happen all the time, but when I try to quote I get this error.

Any ideas on what it could be or a way to fix it would be great.
    Thanks

I am assuming you ahve the latest release and in all honesty, Nightfox should be answering this but in reading the code, is there anything that can be quoted in the message? From what I can gather, if it comes upon a blank it should revert back to the next line that is quoteable. Again, Nightfox could probably answer better than I could.

    Good luck...

Thanks, and yes I always stay up to date with slyedit:)
I found that the problem only occurs when someone tries reply to a message that was made on the webserver, and not the terminal client side. When you reply to the message it opens up fine only when the /q or ctrl q is pressed do i get the error. It doesn't happen if a user ssh's or telnets into the system and makes a post. Replying from posts made from the terminal server work great. I don't know any other way to explain it.
So when a user makes a post on the webserver, i can't respond in my terminal window. I have to get on my webpage, and open up the message then reply.

Yeah, that was a bug that I fixed in the latest version of SlyEdit (1.39), so I suspect he is using an earlier version of SlyEdit. He should update his SlyEdit.

Just a thought... maybe in the next version you can add to the debug mode a statement as to the actual version being used if it's even possible...

What do you mean by "the debug mode"? SlyEdit does not have a special debug mode. The error that Lesser Keys was seeing was put out by the Mozilla JavaScript engine (which Synchronet uses to run JavaScript scripts), and I have no control over that (at least, not that I know of) - so SlyEdit wouldn't be able to print its version in that error output.

My thought was being an error report was being shown, which you've explained to me is now put out by the Mozilla engine, that if a report was made at all by it, it would include the version as well. Again, not sure if it could be done but if it could, one less thing that would have to be determind in the future. Again, just a thought for you. :)

You bet it did! I haven't had anymore problems with it crashing. I assumed it wasn't slyedits fault..but something to do with synchronet. I have seen some sketchy bugs in synchronet lately..I hope they get fixed soon as I am not skilled enough to fix them myself lol.

    What sort of bugs?

Well for one there is something up with the ssh server. It will refuse connections several times for one. Also I replaced the ansi for my webservers flashtelnet app and it is giving me an error saying it doesnt exist, even though the file is in there. It gives the error count a hit and makes it go up. then there is this error

    Mon Jan 27 2014 05:56 pm solomonstemplebbs.com
15560 !JavaScript FAILED to compile script (c:\sbbs\exec\ask_handler.js)

And also other times it fails to detect terminal emulation or refuses to run a javascrip file, like your matrix logon menu will just refuse to load sometimes. I know it's nothing to do with your matrix menu because synchronet says that it can't open the file. Not to mention sometimes when someone scans for new messages that were sent to them, synchronet will skip right through the messages. I have had this happen to me as well. It skips right over the message like it wasnt there lol.
Maybe you can shed the light on this because you have way more experience than i do lol

    What sort of bugs?

Well for one there is something up with the ssh server. It will refuse connections several times for one.

I used to see SSH issues with my Synchronet setup (users could log in via SSH but it would disconnect after a short time). I've since seen that issue go away, so I thought that was fixed. Digital Man had recommended updating a crypto library DLL (I think it was cl32) and using a recent build of SyncTerm to fix SSH issues - So I don't think it was really Synchronet bugs causing that.

Also I replaced the ansi for my
webservers flashtelnet app and it is giving me an error saying it doesnt exist, even though the file is in there. It gives the error count a hit and makes it go up.

That's probably an issue with the Flash telnet client (not Synchronet). Synchronet itself doesn't include a flash telnet client, although I think someone committed one (fTelnet) to Synchronet's CVS repository. I use fTelnet on my BBS web site, so I would recommend double-checking that you got the path correct for the ANSI file. I was able to use an ANSI file with mine, and it seems to be working properly.

    then there is this error
    Mon Jan 27 2014 05:56 pm solomonstemplebbs.com
15560 !JavaScript FAILED to compile script (c:\sbbs\exec\ask_handler.js)

Are there any more errors with that? I'd think it would give you more of a reason why it couldn't compile that script.

And also other times it fails to detect terminal emulation or refuses to run a javascrip file, like your matrix logon menu will just refuse to load sometimes. I know it's nothing to do with your matrix menu because synchronet says that it can't open the file.

Only sometimes? If that was happening 100% of the time, I'd suggest checking to make sure you paths are correct, but if it doesn't happen all the time, then that's very strange and I'm not sure what to suggest.

    Not to mention sometimes when
someone scans for new messages that were sent to them, synchronet will skip right through the messages. I have had this happen to me as well. It skips right over the message like it wasnt there lol.
Maybe you can shed the light on this because you have way more experience than i do lol

Not really sure what to suggest there either.. Could it be simply that there are no new messages? Maybe something is messed up with the newscan pointers?
